Ukrainian Collectibles Society(Toronto)
Founded on December 9, 1954, the Toronto Chapter is one of the oldest branches of the Ukrainian Philatelic and Numismatic Society (UPNS). It officially became a recognized UPNS chapter on March 6, 1955. Since then, our members have actively participated in local philatelic exhibitions, UKRAINEPEX shows, and numerous international philatelic events.
In 1987, the chapter celebrated a major achievement with the publication of The Catalogue of Ukrainian Unofficial Stamps (in Ukrainian), meticulously compiled over several years by Toronto collector Maksym Chomiak.
The following year, UKRAINPEX 1988 took place at Toronto’s Harbour Castle Weston Hotel, marking the Millennium of Ukrainian Christianity. The event produced some of the most sought-after UKRAINEPEX collectibles — including specially cancelled Canada Post covers and a 48‑page souvenir program. That same year, the chapter produced a 50‑minute video, A History of the Postage Stamp in Ukraine, introducing viewers to the rich traditions of classical Ukrainian philately.
In 1991, chapter member Jaroslaw Semotiuk published a bilingual (Ukrainian–English) Catalogue of Ukrainian Military Medals. Now in its second edition, it remains one of the most authoritative references in the field.
